I have observed that popular notions about flexibility are, ironically, rather rigid. Flexibility is commonly regarded as an expression of physical prowess, is frequently sexualized, and is considered by many to be the domain of specialists. While there is truth and reason in all of these, there is much much more to flexibility. Popular attitudes toward flexibility limit cultural perceptions of the body and gloss over the deeper, subtler values and benefits of this intimate practice.
Through eye-opening experiences within my own practice, my perceptions of flexibility have broadened. I have found that training flexibility is a powerful way to deepen body awareness, stimulate healing processes within the body, facilitate emotional processing, and more.
Training flexibility is a universally available course of action for correcting imbalances in the body, clearing the mind, mobilizing locked energy (including physical, emotional, and spiritual), and grounding. I am not interested in the particular depth a student gets to through their training with me. Rather, I am interested in the process of transformation that flexibility training facilitates throughout body, mind, and spirit.
